About the Author
KaLeena Thomas is the owner, author and editor of The Savvy Young Professional website, book, and career coaching services. In addition to her passion for mentoring and writing, she also has twelve years of experience in the retail, consulting, and healthcare industries.
Growing up in Ohio, KaLeena spent her afternoons and weekends working in her parent’s candy store. Through this, she developed a passion for hospitality and business and decided to pursue a career in the retail industry. After graduating from Miami University (Ohio) with retail internship experiences and a double major in Operations Management and Decision Sciences, KaLeena opted to start her career with Deloitte Consulting in the Strategy & Operations group with a focus on retail and consumer products. Instead, she was staffed on a healthcare project during her first month with the firm where she quickly developed an interest in the healthcare provider world. In 2009, she transitioned to work with a national healthcare system to support their supply chain transformation.
Throughout her career, KaLeena has had the opportunity to combine her love of the healthcare industry and her passion for business, strategy, and people in a number of support and leadership roles, most recently serving as the Chief Administrative Officer with oversight and responsibility for the organization’s business development, integration or “deployment”, implementation, marketing and communications, and talent development. Highlights from her career include the development of a consulting group that accelerates the implementation of savings through supply chain transformation for customers and the creation of a leadership development program which aims to draw millennials to careers in healthcare.
KaLeena completed her Master of Business Administration at Washington University in St. Louis through a part-time program and continues to be involved today as a member of the Olin Alumni Board. In 2017, KaLeena was selected as one of the Rising Stars for Becker’s Hospital Review which honored 60 healthcare leaders under the age of 40.
